Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has announced a change to Friday dismissal timings for private schools, placing student wellbeing and religious observance at the centre of the update. The new timings will take effect from January 9, 2026, aligning school schedules with the revised Friday prayer time of 12:45 PM.
What Is Changing
Under the updated directive, private schools in Dubai must dismiss students no later than 11:30 AM on Fridays. The adjustment ensures students, families and school staff have sufficient time to prepare for Friday prayers.
The rule applies to:
- All private schools in Dubai
- Early childhood centres operating within private school campuses
Schools are expected to adjust timetables accordingly to remain compliant.
Option for Remote Learning on Fridays
For students in Grade 6 (Year 7) and above, schools may apply for approval to offer remote learning on Fridays. This option is not automatic and requires:
- Consultation with parents
- Formal approval from KHDA
If approved, schools can deliver lessons online while maintaining academic continuity.
Why This Update Matters
The revised Friday schedule reflects Dubai’s effort to balance education, wellbeing and religious commitments within the school environment. By standardising early dismissals, KHDA aims to provide clarity for families while allowing schools flexibility through structured remote learning options.
What Schools and Parents Should Do
Schools are advised to communicate updated Friday schedules well in advance of January 2026. Parents should review revised timetables and confirm whether their child’s school plans to implement in-person dismissal or apply for remote learning on Fridays.
