The summer heat in the United Arab Emirates may make it challenging to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. But again, the leadership of Dubai has found an innovative solution to keep the community functioning. The much anticipated second edition of Dubai Mallathon is officially back, led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the UAE, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. From June 15 through September 15, 2026, this one-of-a-kind program will turn the city’s best retail spaces into massive climate-controlled gyms, giving residents and visitors alike an incredible chance to work out during the hottest months of the year.
The aim of a better society
This massive collective effort is driven by a deep-seated commitment to public health and well-being. Sheikh Hamdan has often highlighted that every thriving community is built on the foundations of health and quality of life. The leadership seeks to empower the people and better their daily lives, while creating a sense of oneness via the launch of community-based sports programs such as the Mallathon. This project dovetails seamlessly with the UAE’s Year of the Family 2026 aims and supports directly the emirate’s ambitious Quality of Life Strategy 2033. It uses sport as a universal language to bring together people of diverse origins for a collective, positive purpose, highlighting Dubai’s key values of tolerance, kindness and co-existence.

Six Famous Climate Controlled Places
The 2026 event will take place across six of Dubai’s most iconic shopping destinations, making it easy for both residents and tourists to attend. Participants may strap on their running shoes at any one of three venues – the iconic Dubai Mall, the sprawling Mall of the Emirates or the popular Mirdif City Centre. Dubai Festival City Mall, Deira City Center and Dubai Hills Mall are supporting this citywide campaign. The organizers are opening these huge, climate-controlled areas early in the morning to provide a fully safe, refreshing and very stimulating atmosphere for individuals to jog, stroll and other guided exercise activities without worrying about the summer heat outdoors.
All fitness levels are included in the activities.
What I love about the Dubai Mallathon is its total inclusivity. The program is well-planned to suit all ages and physical abilities of participants and is conducted daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. All venues involved in the event have dedicated, well demarcated walking lanes and specific indoor running courses, ensuring a smooth flow of movement. Participants may also tap into professional fitness guidance, comprehensive warm-up sessions and exercise help from qualified trainers placed across the malls. Apart from carefully curated health programs for senior citizens and People of Determination, the initiative also focuses heavily on community care by offering specially designed activity sessions for women at Dubai Mall and Mirdif City Centre, so that no one is left behind on this fitness journey.
Encouraging Interaction and Weekend Enjoyment
It’s absolutely free, really easy to do, and you don’t need to sign up ahead of time to participate in this awesome summertime fitness initiative. Visitors only need to turn up at any of the six participating malls during the designated morning hours and get their official Mallathon wristband. But this bracelet is more than a participation tracker – it opens up a slew of special offers, discounts and perks from the mall’s partner restaurants, cafes and retailers. The organisers have a full calendar of weekend races and community activities planned in all areas to keep the excitement going throughout the three-month period, with exciting prizes, medals and unique gifts to reward consistency and tenacity.
Building on a record-breaking success
This second edition is working closely with the Dubai Sports Council and builds on the huge success of the first. The inaugural Mallathon not only promoted fitness, but created history for the globe. It attracted hundreds of enthusiastic contestants and officially established a Guinness World Record for the largest mall-running event of its kind. The amazing single race at Dubai Hills Mall was over 1,300 runners crossing the finish line. As the 2026 edition kicks off, the city is preparing to smash personal records, reinforce community cohesion and showcase once again that Dubai is a global trailblazer in promoting a vibrant, active and healthy lifestyle for all its residents.
