Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar has revealed the first glimpse of a proposed new development called Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel in Downtown Dubai, sharing a computer-generated preview of an impressive plaza-style destination near the Burj Khalifa. The teaser, posted on October 14, 2026, carried the message “Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel — coming soon”, offering an early look at landscaped pedestrian spaces and illuminated architectural features. The announcement comes as Emaar Properties continues expanding Dubai Mall and developing major retail and hospitality destinations, although the new project’s exact location, construction timeline and opening date have not yet been confirmed.
Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel Revealed in First Official Teaser
The upcoming Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel has attracted attention following a social media preview shared by Mohamed Alabbar. The video presents a modern development featuring expansive pedestrian areas, illuminated architectural structures and an open plaza surrounded by the distinctive skyline of Downtown Dubai. The Burj Khalifa appears prominently in the background, placing the proposed project within one of the city’s most recognisable urban settings.
The computer-generated footage also features elegantly designed outdoor spaces, people walking through the plaza and a striking circular architectural installation surrounded by lighting effects. While the visuals offer an early impression of the project’s design direction, Emaar has not yet released detailed architectural plans or confirmed the full range of facilities expected within the development.
The name suggests a combination of hospitality and public spaces, potentially introducing a new destination for visitors to the Dubai Mall district. However, information about the proposed hotel’s operator, accommodation capacity, specific amenities and opening schedule remains undisclosed.

Mohamed Alabbar Hints at Another Landmark Skyscraper
Hours before sharing the Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel teaser, Mohamed Alabbar spoke at the Rise Summit in Dubai, where he discussed plans for an upcoming architectural development that he believes could become one of the world’s most beautiful buildings.
During the event, Alabbar revealed that the design of a unique building had already been completed and was ready to progress towards the construction tendering stage. He explained that the project was awaiting improvements in logistics and port operations before further steps could be taken.
Is the New Skyscraper Part of Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel?
Although the comments and teaser appeared on the same day, Emaar has not confirmed whether the proposed skyscraper and Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel are the same project. The connection remains uncertain, and the two announcements may relate to separate developments.
The remarks nevertheless highlight Alabbar’s continued interest in ambitious architectural projects and Emaar’s broader efforts to expand Dubai’s portfolio of landmark destinations.
Emaar Continues Major Dubai Mall Expansion
The latest preview arrives as Emaar progresses with its existing Dubai Mall expansion plans, first announced in 2024. The development was initially designed to introduce approximately 240 additional luxury retail and dining outlets, strengthening the shopping destination’s position within Dubai’s tourism and retail sectors.
Subsequent updates introduced The District, a retail and dining expansion featuring 279 outlets, including 198 retail stores and 81 food and beverage establishments. The project reflects Emaar’s strategy of creating integrated destinations that combine shopping, hospitality and entertainment within a single visitor experience.
Another planned expansion towards Grand Drive is expected to provide approximately 440,000 square feet of gross leasable area, with completion currently targeted for the second half of 2028.
It remains unclear whether Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel will form part of these existing expansion plans or be developed independently. Further announcements are expected to clarify its relationship with the wider Dubai Mall district.
Dubai Square Development Moves Ahead at Dubai Creek Harbour
Beyond Downtown Dubai, Emaar is also advancing Dubai Square, a major retail, hospitality and entertainment destination planned for Dubai Creek Harbour. Unveiled in December 2025, the project is designed to offer approximately 2.6 million square metres of retail, hospitality and commercial space, creating another significant addition to Dubai’s evolving shopping landscape.
The development will feature pedestrian-friendly streets, integrated transportation infrastructure and an innovative drive-through shopping concept. Construction has already commenced, with the developer previously indicating a completion target of approximately three years from the December 2025 announcement.
Dubai Square forms part of the wider Dubai Creek Harbour master development, which combines residential communities, commercial spaces, waterfront attractions and hospitality experiences. Its progress, alongside the expansion of Dubai Mall, demonstrates Emaar’s continued focus on developing large-scale lifestyle and entertainment destinations.
Mohamed Alabbar Discusses AI and the Future of Construction
During his appearance at the Rise Summit, Alabbar also addressed the growing role of artificial intelligence in construction, particularly its potential to improve building efficiency and reduce the number of workers required on major projects.
He referred to a reported example of a 15-storey building in Abu Dhabi constructed within 12 days, highlighting advancements in construction technology and building performance. However, he expressed uncertainty about whether buildings could eventually be constructed entirely without human involvement, noting that workers remain essential to physical construction processes.
His comments reflect the increasing interest in advanced building technologies and automation as developers explore more efficient methods of delivering complex projects.
What Comes Next for Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel?
For now, Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel remains at the preview stage, with Emaar yet to announce its official construction schedule, exact site details or anticipated opening date. The teaser has provided an initial look at the proposed architectural concept, but further information will be required to establish the project’s full scope and development timeline.
As Dubai Mall continues its expansion and Emaar advances other major destinations, the proposed plaza and hotel could represent another addition to Downtown Dubai’s retail and hospitality landscape. Attention now turns to future announcements that will reveal how the development fits into the wider district and what visitors can expect when it eventually opens.
