Dubai International Baja 2026: World Cup Finale Returns

Dubai International Baja 2026 will take place from November 5 to 8, marking the tenth anniversary of the event’s Baja format with international motorsport championships, desert racing and celebrations across Dubai. Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the competition will bring leading rally drivers and riders to the emirate for the FIA World Baja Cup and FIA Middle East Baja Cup finales. The four-day event will begin with preparations on November 5, followed by the ceremonial opening at Festival Bay, Dubai Festival City, on November 6, before competitors tackle demanding desert stages in Al Qudra on November 7 and 8.

Dubai International Baja Celebrates a Decade of Desert Motorsport

The upcoming Dubai International Baja represents a significant milestone for one of the UAE’s established motorsport competitions, celebrating ten years since adopting its current cross-country rally format in 2016. The event builds on the legacy of the Dubai International Rally, which has been part of the country’s motorsport history since the late 1970s.

Organised by the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO), the competition has developed into an international motorsport event attracting experienced drivers, navigators and motorcycle riders from around the world. Its challenging desert terrain provides an opportunity for competitors to demonstrate technical driving ability, navigation skills and endurance while competing for championship honours.

The anniversary edition will also highlight Dubai’s growing presence on the international motorsport calendar, combining professional racing with accessible ceremonial events at Dubai Festival City.

FIA World Baja Cup Finale Takes Centre Stage

One of the biggest highlights of Dubai Baja 2026 will be the conclusion of the FIA World Baja Cup and FIA Middle East Baja Cup, bringing both championship campaigns to an end in Dubai.

The competition will feature several vehicle classifications, including FIA Ultimate, Challenger, SSV and Stock, attracting different categories of cross-country rally vehicles. Drivers and navigators will compete across the challenging Al Qudra stages, where changing sand conditions and demanding navigation can influence the final results.

Motorcycle and quad competitors will also participate, with Dubai hosting the penultimate round of the FIM Bajas World Cup and the final round of the FIM Asia Baja Continental Championship.

The combination of these international competitions places Dubai International Baja among the region’s significant desert motorsport events, bringing together established competitors and emerging talent from the UAE and overseas.

Dubai Festival City to Host Opening and Closing Celebrations

Dubai Festival City will once again serve as the headquarters of Dubai International Baja 2026, with Festival Bay hosting the ceremonial start on Friday, November 6, and the finish celebrations on Sunday, November 8.

The waterfront setting will bring the rally atmosphere closer to residents and visitors, providing an opportunity to experience the ceremonial side of an international motorsport event away from the remote desert stages.

The programme will officially begin on Thursday, November 5, with administrative checks and vehicle scrutineering. Friday’s activities will include the Prologue, followed by the ceremonial opening before competitors begin the main desert stages.

Al Qudra Desert Stages Set to Test Drivers

The sporting action will continue on Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, when competitors race through the challenging terrain of the Al Qudra desert.

Known for its dunes and demanding off-road conditions, Al Qudra provides a test of speed, vehicle handling, endurance and navigational accuracy. Competitors must adapt to changing terrain while maintaining control and precision throughout the course.

The final competitive stage on November 8 will determine the event’s results, followed by closing celebrations at Dubai Festival City.

UAE Motorsport Champions Add to the Event’s Legacy

Dubai International Baja has played an important role in showcasing regional motorsport talent alongside established international competitors. Previous editions have featured notable achievements by UAE riders and drivers, reflecting the country’s growing participation in cross-country rallying.

During the 2025 edition, Emirati rider Mohammed Al-Balooshi secured his fourth FIM Bajas World Cup title, celebrating the achievement in front of his home audience.

In the car category, Argentina’s Juan Cruz Yacopini and Spanish co-driver Dani Oliveras claimed victory in a Toyota Hilux, while the UAE’s Abdulaziz Ahli won the quad category.

These achievements highlight the competitive nature of the event and its role in giving regional athletes opportunities to compete against experienced international participants.

Dubai Strengthens Its Position as an International Motorsport Destination

The tenth anniversary edition will also reflect Dubai’s continued investment in hosting major sporting competitions. Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, highlighted the importance of international events in strengthening the city’s sporting culture and attracting audiences from different countries.

According to the Dubai Sports Council, the Baja forms part of approximately 80 international sporting events taking place during the season, reinforcing Dubai’s growing reputation as a destination for professional sport and major competitions.

Khalid Ben Sulayem, President of EMSO, also emphasised the importance of the event’s development since 2016, particularly its role in raising competitive standards and supporting motorsport talent across the Middle East.

The competition benefits from cooperation with several Dubai government entities, including Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality, alongside official automotive partner Al-Futtaim Toyota.
