Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, in direct coordination with Dubai Police, will officially enforce updated truck traffic restrictions across major emirate corridors starting October 1, 2026.
Designed to curb severe rush-hour congestion and boost overall road safety, these comprehensive measures re-route heavy transport while expanding dedicated rest facilities.
The rapid expansion of the urban landscape demands continuous updates to heavy vehicle regulations. As part of a joint initiative between transport administrators and law enforcement, the new framework focuses on regulating heavy vehicle movement during high-density hours while maintaining seamless operations for the commercial logistics sector. By rechanneling heavy transport away from arterial thoroughfares during peak commute hours, authorities aim to increase road capacity for passenger vehicles, cut average journey durations, and minimize traffic incidents across the emirate. Notably, Emirates Road remains completely exempt from these restriction tiers, continuing to serve as the primary bypass corridor for heavy regional transport connecting neighboring emirates.

Comprehensive Breakdown of Traffic Curbs
To ensure high compliance across logistics operations, administrators have established three distinct restriction tiers tailored to specific traffic volumes and corridor capacities. The regulations range from continuous round-the-clock prohibitions on narrow or high-density routes to targeted peak-hour bans along major suburban arterial corridors.
| Restriction Tier | Regulated Hours | Affected Thoroughfares and Communities |
| 24-Hour Complete Ban | Continuous (24 Hours Daily) | Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all marine bridges/crossings, Airport Tunnel |
| 16-Hour Daily Ban | 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM Daily | Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, Al Mizhar, Al Muhaisnah, Oud Al Muteena |
| Peak Period Ban | 6:30 AM–8:30 AM, 1:00 PM–3:00 PM, 5:30 PM–8:00 PM | Airport Street, Amman Street, Damascus Street, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (Ras Al Khor to Sharjah border) |
| Exempt Corridor | Fully Unrestricted | Emirates Road |
Expansion of Rest Area Infrastructure
Recognizing that heavy vehicle bans necessitate safe waiting zones, the authority has accelerated the development of specialized parking infrastructure across strategic logistics hubs. Out of sixteen planned rest stops across six major industrial corridors, fourteen facilities have already been fully completed in partnership with private sector developers.
Furthermore, engineers recently finalized capacity expansions across seven existing rest areas, adding three hundred and sixty-four dedicated parking bays. This fifty percent surge elevates the total available truck parking capacity across the emirate to one thousand and seven spaces. With approximately four hundred thousand heavy vehicle journeys occurring across the road network daily, and over one hundred and fifty thousand trucks utilizing designated rest areas monthly, four additional permanent facilities are currently in development to prevent illegal shoulder parking on main highways and within residential districts.
Permits and Awareness Initiatives
To ensure a smooth transition prior to full enforcement, transport officials and police units are executing an extensive awareness campaign aimed at freight forwarders, logistics firms, and independent drivers. Multi-language informational notices and updated overhead signage are being deployed across major freight corridors to highlight permitted alternative routes and rest stop locations.
In circumstances where essential commercial operations strictly require heavy vehicle movement during restricted windows, transport firms must secure formal authorization in advance. Companies can submit digital applications for a Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles in Banned Times and Roads via the official online portal managed by the Right-of-Way Department. Operating a heavy vehicle within restricted zones without a valid permit or parking illegally outside designated rest stops will result in immediate traffic fines and administrative penalties.
