A Global Campus in Ajman
The International Outlook category is one of the five pillars used by Times Higher Education to assess universities. It considers the proportion of international students and staff, as well as the extent of international collaboration in research.
GMU recorded the highest score globally in this category, reflecting its international academic community and research connections. Today, the university brings together students from more than 115 nationalities and faculty members from 56 countries. Students and academics learn and work across GMU’s campus, Thumbay’s academic hospitals and international research partnerships.
The achievement also adds to the UAE’s position as a destination for international health sciences education.

GMU Makes Its Debut in THE World University Rankings
The 2027 edition marks the first time Gulf Medical University has entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. GMU has been placed in the 1001 to 1200 band overall and is the only specialised medical and health sciences university in the UAE included in the 2027 edition.
Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, described the recognition as a reflection of the university’s international community and its commitment to developing its academic and research performance.
“Healthcare has no borders, and neither does education,” he said, highlighting the role of GMU’s students, faculty and partners in the achievement.
Prof. Ammar Almaaytah, Dean of Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness at GMU, said the university’s 99.4 score reflects years of work focused on international recruitment, research collaborations and global standards. He added that the university will continue working to strengthen its performance across all five ranking pillars.
Building an International Healthcare Education Community
Gulf Medical University is a private medical university in the UAE and serves as the academic anchor of Thumbay Group’s integrated healthcare ecosystem.
The university offers programmes across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physical therapy, biomedical sciences and healthcare management, with clinical training delivered through Thumbay’s network of academic hospitals.
Its #1 global ranking for International Outlook places the university at the centre of a growing international education community in the UAE, while its first appearance in THE’s global rankings provides a new benchmark for its academic and research development.
